Central Savings Bank Scholarship
In 1990, Central Savings Bank established its scholarship to assist LSSU students who are majoring in finance and economics and who are pursuing a career in banking. The scholarship recipient must reside in the Eastern U.P. or the Algoma District of Ontario and has earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The goal of this program is to provide talented local students with an opportunity to work and stay within the community. The scholarship recipient is selected by a committee composed of three faculty members of the School of Business, a CSB representative and a representative from city government.
Lambda Sigma Beta Scholarship
This scholarship was created by contributions from alumni of the School of Business and the Lambda Sigma Beta Fraternity spearheaded by Dr. Madan Saluja, professor of business at LSSU. This endowment is awarded to students who have attained junior or senior status in the business program, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and who have demonstrated campus/community leadership and dedication in working in the business profession.
The named annual award is established by the Hantz Group, a full service financial holding company with an office in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and corporate headquarters in Southfield, Michigan. The award is open to any business degree program student who has reached his or her junior year (88 credits) in good academic standing. Candidates must demonstrate campus or community leadership and/or represent Lake Superior State University in any Division I or Division II athletic program.The scholarship recipient is selected by a committee composed of School of Business faculty and a member of the Hantz Group.
Central Savings Bank currently employs three previous scholarship recipients:
- Jesscia O’Grady, 2005 recipient, is the customer service supervisor
- Mark Savoie, senior vice president received the scholarship in 1992;
- Jim Hammerberg, installment loan representative, received the scholarship in 1999.
