The CFRE building, located adjacent to Alford Park, stands out as a significant attraction on the St. Marys River. Since its official opening in December 2021, this $13.2 million facility has continually fulfilled its core mission of conducting public outreach, housing a K-12 discovery room, providing office space for university researchers and partners, and furnishing research labs that are geared toward fish culture and management, emerging contaminants, and invasive species.

Donating to Lake Superior State University’s CFRE helps give back to the next generation of Lakers. Your generous donation will go towards new or existing scholarships, help fund new programs or support existing classes, and can create/fund research opportunities for future students.
Although construction of CFRE is complete, we continuing to improve our facilities to better support our mission and vision for Great Lakes stewardship and research. Future plans include renovations to the Hatchery, expanding our outdoor Mesocosm, and upgrades to our Boat Building. Your donation will enable us to support research projects, undergraduate opportunities, and training funds.
By supporting our scientists with a full or partial endowed position, you are directly investing in student research, instructional excellence, and freshwater stewardship.
