Governor Whitmer Appoints Dr. Jason Garvon to Michigan Wildlife Council
Lake Superior State University faculty member, Dr. Jason Garvon was recently appointed by Governor Whitmer to the Michigan Wildlife Council. Dr. Garvon was one of three individuals recently appointed to the Council. The Michigan Wildlife Council is entrusted with educating the public about the importance of wildlife conservation and its role in preserving Michigan’s great outdoor heritage for future generations.
Dr. Garvon is a professor of biology at Lake Superior State University and the President of the Faculty Association. He is the advisor for the LSSU Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and a former member of the Eastern Upper Peninsula Citizens Advisory Council.
Dr. Garvon is appointed to represent individuals who have purchased hunting or fishing licenses in this state on a regular basis, at least once during each of the last 3 years, and are nominated by statewide sportsmen organizations. His term commenced on June 24, 2020 and will expire March 31, 2024.

Having grown up enjoying the outdoors, including hunting and fishing, completing my formal education focused on wildlife and finishing with a PhD in Wildlife Science, and then working at LSSU with students on wildlife related senior thesis projects and grant funding for Piping Plover Conservation, I feel I have a lot to offer the Council. My passion for the outdoors matches the Council’s mission of communicating the importance of wildlife conservation and its role in preserving Michigan’s great outdoor heritage for future generations,” stated Dr. Jason Garvon.

He has been an instrumental faculty member here at LSSU, and his thoughtful and compassionate leadership has been paramount during the COVID-19 crisis. These appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
