SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Orientation season has officially set sail. With the first New Student Orientation of Summer 2026 in the books, LSSU is welcoming incoming Lakers and their supporters to campus as they prepare for the Fall.

The first session brought faculty, staff, student leaders, and campus partners together to introduce incoming Lakers to the people, programs, and resources supporting them at Lake State.

Throughout the day, students connected with academic programs, interacted with campus leadership, built their class schedules, explored all campus has to offer, and met with fellow incoming students. Families and supporters also participated in their own orientation experience, including tours of the Richard and Theresa Barch Center for Freshwater Research and Education, a conversation with University President Dr. David Travis in the President’s House, and chances to learn more about the resources available to support their students.

Following a welcome from university leaders, attendees participated in a presentation from key campus departments before sharing lunch on Pledger Commons. The afternoon included academic advising sessions and chances for individual meetings with campus departments.

Orientation sessions will be offered throughout the summer, both in-person and virtually, giving students multiple opportunities to get prepared for the semester ahead.

Additional In-person Orientation sessions will be held on June 26, July 20, and August 17.

Virtual Orientation sessions are scheduled for July 8, July 14, and July 29.

Orientation is required for all new Lakers. Incoming students who have not yet registered are encouraged to do so. There is no cost associated with the event.
