High School Summer Camps



Aquatic Ecology and Fisheries Camp: June 26–June 29,2023
Entering grades 9-12
Develop skills in capturing, identifying, and comparing aquatic animal communities in our lakes and rivers. Gain experience using basic aquatic ecology and fisheries research, sampling techniques, and equipment, including fyke nets, seines, D-nets, and water quality meters. Learn the basics of aquatic science with fish and aquatic invertebrate identification and lab experiments. Overnight and commuter options available. For entering 9th–12th grades.
Biomedical and Health Science Camp: July 10–13, 2023
Entering grades 9-12
Learn and experiment in the state-of-the-art science labs at LSSU. Sample activities include dissections in the anatomy lab, experiments in the physiology lab, DNA extraction in the genetics lab, and simulated patient care in the Nursing SIM lab. This is an excellent camp for all who are interested in science, medicine, and health! For entering 9th–12th grades.
Careers in Natural Resources Camp: July 16-21st, 2023
Entering grades 9-12
This program explores careers in natural resources enabling campers to work closely with federal and state fisheries and wildlife biologists, wild land managers, park rangers, and natural resource interpreters. The campers will be in residence at LSSU’s Hunt Creek Field Station, a 3,000 acre natural laboratory near Gaylord, Michigan. Activities will include hands-on exploration of a day in the life of real-world natural resources career professionals, such as habitat assessment, species inventory, soil and water quality, assessment of sustainable human uses of the resources base. This is an overnight camp, commuter options are not available. For entering 9th – 12th grades.
Engineering and Robotics Camp
Entering grades 9–12 – July 17-19, 2023
Campers use industrial robots, mobile robots, rocketry, GPS, and 3D printing. Activities include extensive lab time with LSSU engineering faculty and staff and camp counselors and working with state-of-the-art equipment. Our hands-on approach and interactive demonstrations create an engaging, fun, and cutting-edge experience. Overnight or commuter options available. For entering 9th–12th grades.
LSSU houses one of the most modern technological educational facilities and one of the best multimillion-dollar robotics labs in the U.S. Our site was recognized by the Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET as one of the most complete and advanced of its kind in the nation.
We are offering a middle school Engineering and Robotics Camp as well for students entering 7th & 8th grades.
Entering grades 7-8th – July 24-26, 2023

Important Camp Information
All entrance and service fees are included in the registration fee. Meals are provided for overnight campers. Lunch is provided for commuter day-only campers. Students should pack sunscreen, bug spray, and personal toiletries. A schedule of events will be provided prior to the camp’s start date.
Camp LSSU counselors are first aid-certified, trained in “Stop the Bleed,” and lifeguard certified.

Lake Superior State University reserves the right to terminate the stay of any student, without refund, when it is deemed to be in the best interest of either the student or the program.
Full refunds will be issued for any camp cancelled by LSSU because of low enrollment. Refunds will be issued minus the $150 non-refundable deposit for any camp cancelled by a participant two weeks prior to the camp start date the participant is enrolled in.
