Newly Employed

Welcome to LSSU! You have just been hired and have finished On-Boarding with HR. What happens next for you with IT?

Computers

If you are eligible for a Campus Issued Laptop (check with your Department), please stop at the IT HelpDesk to pick it up. The laptops are imaged with the latest version of Windows and Windows Updates, along with installed software that is supported by IT. While there, you will log onto it for the first time to verify your network connections. Some of your network drives or printers may not yet be showing up or be available yet. Don’t worry, it can take a little time for your information to propagate through the system after it is entered by HR. If things are not available in a couple hours, contact the HelpDesk at extension 6677, and they will be able to help resolve the issue.

On occasion new hires have expressed a preference to use a personal laptop. This is not encouraged, as a personal computer is not managed by our network security, and therefore cannot utilize our secured network resources (such as accessing network drives and networked printers, and the Software Center). Internet access is available for them, though. Our IT HelpDesk also offers limited software support for non-LSSU managed computers.

Phones

After you are settled into your office, You will want to set up your phone’s voicemail.
You can also forward your office phone to your desk.

Software

You might need to have some software installed on your computer that is not already pre-installed. Please check the Software Center (found on your computer) first. If it is not there, and you have it, and it is ready to be installed, please contact the IT HelpDesk for assistance. (Note: Due to Network Security Practices, we do NOT have/allow local Admin accounts).

Printing

If you need to print something from your computer to a Departmental networked Printer/copier, you will need 2 things, one, to be logged onto the Campus’s secured network (either hard wired into a network jack with a network cable, or logged on wirelessly to, Campus Net), and two, to have a print code (obtained from your Department’s Administrative Assistant). The print code designates which program is to be charged for the print costs incurred by the print job. If your Department provides you with a printer for your office that is NOT networked, please contact the IT HelpDesk for help in setting it up for you. They will be happy to assist!
