Job Descriptions and Minimum Qualifications

Please note that openings in the ASC mid-year are rare. Due to the number of applications we receive, you may not receive a response.

Peer Tutors work directly with students to provide course-specific academic support outside the classroom. Tutoring sessions may have up to three students at one time. Peer Tutors should know their subject matter well and be able to effectively communicate that material to others.

A small number of tutors will be assigned to work in either the Math or Writing Center. These tutors will work in shifts to accept walk-in appointments for MATH 087-151, 207 or writing assignments. Preference is given to returning tutors from previous academic years, and openings are limited. Math tutors must be able to support content up to MATH 151. Writing tutors must have strong writing and review skills.

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum 3.5 GPA (overall)
Must have received an “A” grade to be eligible to tutor for a specific class (grades from another institution may be eligible)
Full time LSSU student
Two LSSU staff or faculty recommendations required
Available to attend mandatory staff training

Supplemental Instruction Leader

Supplemental Instruction Leaders are responsible for leading small support courses for some of LSSU’s most historically challenging classes. SI Leaders are expected either to attend regular class sessions or a weekly meeting with the professor, develop a plan for weekly sessions, and host two sessions per week. SI Leaders should be good communicators, willing to adapt to the needs of the students, and able to work independently.

Available to attend mandatory staff training

*Most SI Leaders are recruited after being recommended by a faculty member. All are welcome to apply, but openings for this position are limited.
