A Christmas Carol

Description:

A Christmas Carol

Performed by Broadway veteran Allen Fitzpatrick
Presented in partnership with the Great Lakes Center for the Arts

This holiday season, join us at the Lake Superior Arts Center for a truly magical evening of storytelling. Broadway’s Allen Fitzpatrick brings Charles Dickens’ beloved A Christmas Carol to life in a way you’ve never seen before — one actor, 26 characters, and a whole world created through voice, movement, and the imagination.

Following in the footsteps of Dickens himself — who began performing public readings of the story not long after writing it — Allen’s performance captures the heart, humor, and humanity that have made this timeless tale a holiday favorite for generations. With a virtually bare stage and nothing but the power of story, audiences are invited to experience Scrooge’s transformation in a deeply personal, unforgettable way.

Dickens’ A Christmas Carol helped define the spirit of Christmas as we know it — family gatherings, festive cheer, generosity, and goodwill. But at its core, it’s also a story about empathy and social conscience, a reminder of the importance of caring for those in need — a message that feels as urgent today as it did in 1843.

About Allen Fitzpatrick:

Allen has spent 50 years performing on Broadway and in professional theatre, working alongside legends such as Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Harold Prince, and Marvin Hamlisch. His Broadway credits include Les MisérablesDriving Miss Daisy (with James Earl Jones), The Scarlet PimpernelDamn Yankees (with Jerry Lewis), 42nd Street, and Sweet Smell of Success (as standby for John Lithgow). He shared an Emmy Award for Passion: Live from Lincoln Center, appeared opposite Patti LuPone and Petula Clark, and starred in productions directed by Sir Nicholas Hytner and Hal Prince.

Come experience the story that continues to inspire the season of giving — told by a master of the stage.

Cost: General Audience $15| Children 10 & under $5| Free for LSSU Students, Staff and Faculty

Description:

What does it mean to be human in an era shaped by artificial intelligence? With curiosity and compassion, SYREN Modern Dance invites audiences to consider that question in At the Table, a bold new work that blends dance, science, sound, and storytelling.

Choreographed by Kate Sutter with an original score by Lauren Cregor, this evening-length piece unfolds across nine distinct sections—each exploring a facet of our evolving relationship with AI. From machine learning and media saturation to hope, fear, and the emotional terrain of our technological age, the dancers delve into the complexity of how we live, connect, and imagine the future.

Performed by SYREN’s dynamic company members—Alice Chacon, Rivkins Christopher, Jessica Nolan, Lynn Peterson, Roxanne Potes, with Jules Assue as swing—At the Table invites us not to retreat from change, but to pull up a chair and participate. The work suggests that by claiming our place in the conversation, we can shape the narrative of our shared future together.

Featuring:
Choreography – Kate Sutter
Composer / Pianist / Vocalist – Lauren Cregor
Music Producer – Alex Weinstein
Violin – Doori Na
Cello – Emily Brausa

The creation of At the Table was supported by SYREN’s individual donors, the Museum of Science–Boston, NXTHVN, the O’Donnell-Green Music and Dance Foundation, the Aleph Fund, and collaborators including Victoria Ellis and kamrDANCE.
