The Arts Center at Lake Superior State University employs a small team to manage the daily technical needs of the building. This team is comprised of one Technical Manager and a handful of current Lake State students. Students working for the Arts Center are exposed to the many technical aspects of a performance venue, allowing them the opportunity to gain experience setting up and working on live events. The Arts Center Technical Manager supervises the student workers and offers them training on the various equipment used for events and productions.
There is no fly-system in place, so lighting must be hung from the fixed catwalk system or the grid system between catwalks using a lift.
Circuits and dimmers are 2:1, meaning that each circuit is permanently paired with another circuit and controlled together by one dimmer address. When viewing the number of circuits on each catwalk below, keep in mind that there are actually twice the number, but act in a similar manner as what a two-fer would accomplish.
In addition to the circuits listed below, there are a few dedicated circuits for rehearsal, decor, and non-dim work lights. There are also a few circuits located at floor level in each stage corner, orchestra pit, and along connector catwalks that run from mid-house to upstage.
A video switcher in the booth and back stage allow for various types of inputs to be converted to HDMI. Each video switcher outputs to a fiber optic HDMI cable to travel to the projector. A VGA input straight to the projector is also available in the FOH catwalk, above the projector. We recommend using devices with a built-in HDMI port to avoid any problems that may be caused by adapters.
