Native American Heritage Month

Description:

Woodland Sky will perform a new work “Lake of the Torches,” which presents historic tales and stories using traditional native songs and dances. These century old tales are told with flute and drums, hoop dancers and legendary warriors and hunters. Parking will be available in K-Lot, E-Lot.

Tomas and the Library Lady

Event Type: Theatrical Musical

Description:

This musical examines the story of a young boy, Tomás, who is the son of migrant farm workers. When a chance encounter brings him to the local Carnegie Library, he meets the “Library Lady” who recognizes his thirst for knowledge and encourages him to read. His delight in books is equaled by his pride in teaching Spanish to the Library Lady, trading knowledge and respect between generations and cultures. K – 5 grade

Bad River

We will be screening the film Bad River in the Arts Center Theater. This special premiere event is brought to you by the Bay Mills Indian Community. The film explores the incredible journey of the Wisconsin-based Bad River Band as they confront the ongoing struggle to protect Lake Superior, the largest freshwater resource in America. Witness the revelations, devastating losses, and the powerful legacy of defiance and resilience.

The Laramie Project

Event Type: Theatrical Performance

Description:

In October 1998, a twenty-one-year-old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped, severely beaten, and left tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming. His bloody, bruised, and battered body was not discovered until the next day, and he died several days later in an area hospital. His name was Matthew Shepard, and he was the victim of this assault because he was gay. THE LARAMIE PROJECT is a breathtaking collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.

Fly Fishing Film Tour 2024

Event Type: Short films; Fundraising event

Audience: General Public

Description:

The 18th annual Fly Fishing Film Tour (F3T) is back on the road, and the LSSU Fisheries and Wildlife Club and Center for Freshwater Research and Education (CFRE) are proud to host a showing right here in Sault Ste. Marie! Come see a top-notch selection of short films that are sure to get you fired up for the season ahead! This year there will be films on fishing for big Brown Trout under the moon in Michigan, the trip of a lifetime in remote eastern Canada for Atlantic Salmon, a Steelhead story with characters as rare as the fish itself, and the science of the Costa Marlin Project, plus many more! Come early to browse informational booths and stay for the prizes during a raffle and silent auction with fantastic items from the national tour sponsors and trips with local guides! Doors open at 1PM, films start at 2PM, and all prize winners will be announced at the intermission.

All proceeds from ticket sales go to the LSSU Fisheries and Wildlife Club and the CFRE Undergraduate Research Fund. Students and staff will be onsite running the event and showcasing the work they do to protect our natural resources!

The 2024 tour is presented by Costa and Skwala. Interprofessional Simulation Exercise

Event Type: Emergency Simulation

Date of Performace: April 19; 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Description:

This is your opportunity to observe (from a safe distance) LSSU students in Nursing, Emergency Services, Fire Science, and Criminal Justice work together as a dynamic team in response to a simulated emergency. The event will be livestreamed in the Theater. Doors open at 9:30 AM. Opening remarks at 10:00 AM. Simulation begins promptly at 10:30 AM. Parking in K lot.
